Black Market Performance fuel filter kit.

Hey gang, I’m wanting to change my upper fuel filter to the BMP kit. The main reason is to hopefully prevent a fire from the crappy design of the stock filter.
I like the BMP kit, it mounts to the firewall and allows you to change the filter without disturbing the fragile connections.
Anyone here running the BMP kit care to share any pros/cons?
I know H&S has a nice kit as well but it mounts in the same location as the stock filter and you still have to disconnect the lines to change it out.
I’d appreciate any and all thoughts and opinions you share. Thanks

I am not so sure that the fire and leaky filters are that huge of a concern? The few I have read about were filters that were not changed when they should have been. I know a lot of people that run 6.7's for commercial purposes and not one has had a leaky fuel filter. Plus you still buy the factory fuel filters as a kit so you aren't really saving any money like they say unless someone makes aftermarket fuel filters and you can buy them separately?

I have been doing some research as well in regards to the H&S kit and the BMP kit. I like the BMP kit due to its location and simplicity. With just having to spin on/off the fuel filter and not having to mess with the fuel lines is one less thing to break. The main concern with the BMP kit is that the CAT fuel filter that comes with their kits do not have as much filtration as the stock OEM filter or the Baldwin BF7967 filter that comes with the H&S kit. So I plan on buying the BMP kit and using the Baldwin BF7967 filters.

I had never heard of this kit until this thread, looked it up and see that it uses a 2 micron CAT filter. What micron is the OEM filter?

These kits look good, but without being able to buy the lower filter separately I can't see myself going that route.

A was able to find a couple references to the OEM filter being 5 micron. The Baldwin 4 micron and the CAT that comes with the BMP kit 2 micron.

The only filter that I dont trust is the engine mounted filter. The plastic housing specifically. But for now I think I would rather just change it more often instead of replacing both upper and lower with an aftermarket kit. If there was a way to get just the lower OEM filter it would be a different story.

I installed the CAT kit , then had to remove it.

the return line on the CAT kit kept poping off

discussed with the vendor and they blamed the problem on ford hose inconsistencies. they recommended replacing the return line fitting on the CAT manifold with a fitting that was longer and has more aggressive teeth. . its not my job to re-engineer their product so I took it off and returned to stock.

I think this problem is morso a 2017 and later problem since 2017 and later have the return line at the filter.

I personally would stay away from the CAT version if you have a 2017 or later.

my wife almost missed a flight when this hose kept poping off ....wasnt a fun day.

2011 - 16 have 4 micron engine bay fimters, 2017 and later have 2 micron engine bay filters.....according to ford diagram's anyway. no idea on % efficency.

Hmmm did not know about the return hose issue but I do like the fact that it gets the filter off the top of the motor . I don't think a lot of 6.7 owners realize that the exhaust manifolds are on top of the engine in the valley which i tend to believe makes it more fire prone if their is a fuel leak . I am a retired diesel mech for a fleet of 1800 school buses and other vehicles 3/4 are diesel powered most are inline 6s a few v 8s and while we have had our share of fires none of the diesel powered ones were started by leaking fuel on the exhaust manifolds .Alot of hydraulic fluid spraying exhaust manifolds/turbos trans fluid fires , electrical fires hell I have seen engine oil fires they all had one thing in common except the electrical fires that hot fluids were sprayed on the exhaust manifolds / turbos .Thats why I like the filter off the top of the motor specially a plastic one .

Who was the maker of the conversation kit, H&S, Black Market? CAT is just the filter that is used with some, the filter doesn't sound like the problem. I read that H&S had a line that would sometimes pop off but has since included an additional clamp to secure it.

this is the item you need if you get the cat filter and have a return line.

the barbs are longer on this fitting and the teeth are aggressive.

Still confused as there are a couple manufacturers who sell an adapter kit. Which brand kit are you talking about, this Black Market kit? The filter brand makes no difference.

It don't really bother me having to buy a complete kit to replace the lower filter. I'd probably find someone that needs one and give it to them. I'm more concerned about the defective upper filter leaking, whether it's widespread or not the thought of a burning truck on the roadside with family and our travel trailer in tow.
I like that BMP kit mounts to the side and you can change filters without disconnecting any lines. But I like the H&S kit too. Still don't know which route I'm taking.
