Well, if you tend to keep a vehicle for a couple of decades and use it frequently, like I do, an ignition cylinder will wear out...had to change it twice on my '90 Mustang so far...not an issue with the push button.
I originally wasn’t going to get the Ultimate Package on my Lariat. Then I figured in about 10 years I’d be one of the only ones left using a key to start my truck so I added it and glad I did. I really like the intelligent access which is the lock/unlock by touching the door handle - no fob button pushing. My only compliant is how big the fob is. Other brands are 2/3 to half the size of Ford’s.
$645 stand alone option on my wife's new Jeep ($45k MSRP). Not offered at any price on a supercab super duty truck... Nice feature for sure but as mentioned it requires thousands of dollars in other options, tens of thousands more than my truck will cost to get it. If you do not want a crew cab you lose access to lots of nice options. Good thing I just wanted a fairly simple truck to begin with...
Love it, wish I could program the ford key to work with the Murano and vise versa for the wife, not so that she can drive it but so she can open the door when I'm still in the store when she forgets the door code. Actually I wish the phone would just clone your FOB and done. drive all your vehicles withough needing to remember your key..........Ford if you are listening do that, plus make it so that I can select a second layer of security and have to enter a code in the radio to start........be perfect for when I leave my fob in the truck at the beach..........
I started driving (legally anyway) in 1976. My first truck was a 20 year old F-100 short bed. Options consisted of a cigar lighter. No power anything, straight 6, 3-on-the-tree, and a parts store AM radio bolted under the dash for luxury.
These days, the trucks have more technology than Apollo 11 and we wonder why they cost so much.
If your are in a truck camper can some one just open your locked truck ? with the fob in the cabover
The key fob has to be in close proximity of the receiver which is in the front seat area of the truck not to mention that it has to be close enough to the front doors so that when a hand is inserted behind either of the front door handles, the doors will unlock.
I think its definitely worth the money, understand some people may not want to pay 3495 for the ultimate package if the push button start is all they want so Ill give you my take on the Lariat Ultimate Package options and maybe it will help you feel better about the cost.
• Ambient Lighting – Fixed Color This impressed me once and my oldest daughter a couple times, but it impresses my little one every time shes in the truck! • LED Box Lighting (incl. LED Center High-Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL)) Game. Changer. You need this in your life • Power-Adjustable Pedals with Memory You'll use this once, then its only purpose is to help the resale value of your truck • Easy Entry/Exit Memory Driver’s Seat Feature Ive never used this one, and ive never seen it as an option to check on KBB • Power Heated/Ventilated Driver/Passenger Seat with Driver Side Memory So nice.... • Intelligent Access with Push-button Start (PEPS) This is a daily improvement on convenience, it adds value, TO YOUR LIFE!! • Power Telescoping/Tilt Steering Wheel/Column, memory and audio controls You'll also only use this once, then its only purpose is to help the resale value of your truck • PowerScope® Trailer Tow Mirrors with Memory Nice to have but I wish they folded in automatically without Forscan modification • Remote Start System I use this when its stupid hot and when its cold, it's worth the money • Remote Tailgate Release This is another one of those options where my truck is slowly stripping me of my man card... and Im ok with it • Tailgate Step Havent had this one yet • Voice-activated Navigation System with HD and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio Meh • Wireless Charging Pad (only included when 40/console/40 seat is ordered) Havent had this one yet, i hear its a pain to get to. IDK
Good summary. I'll just add that you can set the power fold option in the menu now on the 2022s.
Some how Kia can offer keyless entry/push button start AND LED lights on a sub $20k car, but Fords gonna require a $65k+ truck?
Totally different marketing strategies. Kia offers it in lower cost models to draw buyers away from other brands. Ford doesn't need to do that with the SD. Ford's strategy is to sell higher margin trucks. If GM/Chevy starts offering "premium" features on lower trim trucks, Ford would likely do the same.
I like a key. Not these huge F-ing key fobs like we currently have that I hate. But a small chip key like the ‘90’s and early ‘00’s vehicles.
My car has the push button start on it. While it can be nice at times, I think the nicest feature was that the key fob was small…smaller than a BIC lighter.
