Finally going back together. Slow progress but now that is is getting dark and cold in the evenings, the mountain bike is getting parked and I'll camp out in the garage 'till it's done. I have most everything stockpiled and ready to go. I had most components rebuilt rather than replacing with new Chinese junk. Lots of good restoration shops out there that will do custom rebuilding for about the same cost as new. Just have to add for shipping but to me it is worth it. I hope to have it installed by Thanksgiving.

I am not replacing the cam and it is not a roller. The cam looked to be in good shape and all the lifters are going back in the same bores. It was a custom made unit from Ultradyne. .524 lift, split duration of 276/286
My fingers are sore from all the polishing but I like the look. Gave me something to do while waiting on parts. The weird oil filler snorkel is OEM Ford for the Econoline vans. I don’t leave it on for everyday driving but is sure is nice during an oil change. Headers are Hooker and since this is probably my last stab at youth, I decided to ceramic coat them. Trust me, I’ve spent more money on dumber things. The intake is an aluminum reproduction of a stock cast iron Ford manifold. I bought it back in the eighties from a company that is long ago out of business.
I finally found motor mounts after being stalled out for a couple weeks. The Holleyburator is in pieces and soaking in cleaner so hopefully it will go on next weekend. Power steering pump and hoses went on yesterday and tonight I'm going to fill the system and turn the pump with a drill to bleed it. One less thing to worry about when the engine gets started. The second line from the fuel pump to carb is a vent hose. Since the carb and fuel pump are meant for a marine application, the weep hole goes to the carb and not just out on the ground if it starts to leak. This does not run a vacuum advance so that is just plugged. I would like to find a block-off plate but have had no luck for a Motorcraft distributor, I can only find them for an MSD. The blue distributor cap is the original and is only on so I could route the wires. I would like to find another blue one but that can wait. I have a new gray Motorcraft that I can use. Next step is finish the brakes. Slower progress than I had planned but we all know how life in general gets in the way.
Thanks again for all the posts. I read them all and they have helped a bunch. I also follow other forums as well since the 460 overlapped into other truck generations. ( you FE powered guys should watch bumpside and slick side forums also. Lots of sharp guys there fighting the same battles as us) Thanks to you all.
Good eye my friend. These are made by Hooker. The passenger side is a three -piece header. Two behind are part of the exhaust flange. The two in front of the mount slip into the flange. No clamps. It is a very tight fit, and even tighter since I had them coated. Hooker says the heat will cause them to expand and seal. He said they used the same design for the headers they made for the Thunderbolt ( tells you how long he has been working for Hooker) This guy was very helpful in finding these for me. A 460 never was used in this application from Ford but it was a pretty common swap. I cold called them since I could not look them up by application. This guy said he would check around and called me back the nest day. He said they still had plans on file and would make me a set. It took about six weeks and they fit great. The starter goes in very easily from the bottom so the header does not need to be loosened and there is plenty of room around the clutch linkage.
