05 Excursion overhead DVD player screen not working

I have an 05 excursion limited with an overhead DVD player. Had an 04 GMC with a durimax and with DVD player, not sure if Ford has headphones like the GMC or if it’s through the radio, but my Fords doesn’t work. DVD player ejects and recives discs, but screen does not light up. I have aftermarket speakers installed by previous owner and don’t think he ever used the DVD player. Not sure if DVD screen is hooked to speakers and radio or if is just a simple blown fuse, please help.

Keep in mind that the player is from pre-2005 technology so do not expect great video (resolution on the screen) even if it were to play. On mine, I can only play certain 'old format' DVDs, if at all. Screen resolution is terrible (your phone resolution is much better).

What I have done is to connect the video output of my double DIN Pioneer to the auxiliary input of the overhead DVD entertainment center. That way I play the DVDs up front and they show on both the screens. Like I said, overhead player resolution is horrible compared to the Pioneer, but the kids see it and the audio comes out on all the speakers.. I ran the video cable from the Pioneer through the dash on the passengers side, behind the glove compartment, up the pillar and under the liner (not easy but doable) to the overhead unit. Then it the RCA cable end comes out just above the left side of the overhead unit and plugs into the aux video.

Before settling on the above approach, as the best solution, I bought an overhead player from a same vintage Expedition. The player is the same (and so is the screen as it appeared to me when I took it apart). I was going to replace the ones in my Excursion but decide that it would be easier just to run the video from the front to the Aux input in the overhead unit.

Hope this helps.

I had a site saved that had the screen and players saved, I'll look and see if I still have the web address. I used them to replace the player in my wife's 6.0.

However in my gasser I upgraded to a dual screen aftermarket set up, I put one in place for each row in the back, and ran it through a new head unit. The dual screens share a single player. Had to repin all the plugs and it was a couple weekends of work.

I have posted , I think all, the pin out combos for the radio, vcr, and dvd players in a thread for someone. A quick look at my post history, or a search about radios should find it pretty easy.

I had toyed with the idea of grabbing a newer player (2010+) from a boneyard and just repinning and mounting it in the originals place, but I ran across a killer deal for the dual setup I put in the gasser ( I got a gift card for some reason and only paid $30 out of pocket for it.).

Heading off to bed, I'll check this thread after work tomorrow and be more specific on where to look for what.
