Well I sold my Excursion a few weeks ago and have been searching high and low for an F350 Super Duty and looking at some of the used prices I've come to the conclusion that buying new might be my best option. My question is: will pricing get any lower than sticker or is that the way its going to be for the time being? My wife seems to think that dealers have room, which tend to agree but in this market they are in the drivers seat. Some dealers are at sticker no higher no lower, while others are adding 10 grand over MSRP. My wife wants to wait the market out but that could go way into next year and who knows what that will bring...Any insight would be appreciated
You may get a little off sticker but it won’t be too much in this market. Of course some on here say get their trucks $15k below sticker no matter what the market but I don’t buy that. Expect to pay close to sticker.
I agree with Rob. The manufacturer drives the train right now and way too many folks beating down the doors to purchase such beast trucks! You may get what you see as a dealer discount price but it will not be anything near what 2019 and prior had. I pretty much in January paid maybe a few grand below MSRP but it was a 2020 new leftover they had that had a October 2020 build date.
Used truck prices have been insane for two decades and have nothing to do with Covid. I use to shop late model but when a good used truck is within a few grand of buying new, I am buying new!
Your wife is optimistic if she thinks everything will be back to normal in a year. I would work two years. Maybe three before we all know which end is up. And at that point, the market will look different than it now does. The deck has been reshuffled. All of that is just my opinion but based upon scouring a lot of the business and trades. At any rate, I would base my plan on two years out as your purchase strategy.

Agreed and with the new re-resurgence of covid, who knows what's gonna happen.

If you can wait about 2-3 months, then ordering is the way to go.
My dealer offered $2K off sticker on an order, but I am using Ford's Partner program X-Plan, which ends up being just a few dollars over invoice price, about $4K off sticker for my ordered truck.
There are a few ways to get the X-Plan, I joined the Mustang club of America, one of the benefits of which is the X-Plan.
You have to be a member for 60 days before you can use the X-Plan.
There has been some talk, and it is possible that the auto manufacturers take on a different business model.
Don't over produce, keep inventory lower and then manufacturer and the dealers make higher profit on less units
it might become only a few demonstrators on the lot, you want one, you will have to order one.
Onlly build trucks that are pre-sold. No more discounts or end of year sales.
OR, 6 months from now supply is higher than demand and prices drop
what I am saying is there might be a new norm, or a long time before things get back to the old norm.
It really reaanyone's guess.
Yeah, that's what I was told, but when i went on the Ford partner Plan website and got my X-Plan PIN yesterday, it clearly stated it was 60 days.
So, they either changed it again, or???

did the same, thought it was 90 days. Regardless, it knocked almost 5k off of MSRP. My initial dealer would not take X plan so I canceled and ordered one who said they would.
Outside of X Plan which is what I plan to use the first dealer I talked to was $4k off MSRP without any conversation outside of "get me a quote for this build" and the second dealer I talked to was $5k off MSRP with the same amount of conversation.
Ended up going with the first dealer since they took X Plan and were closer. No way in hell I'd pay MSRP right now when it didn't seem all that hard to save at least a couple grand. I'd agree with others that people who say they got 15k off and such are full of ***** in the current market.
Good points above, as with most things timing and amount of effort you want to put in are critical factors in determining the deal you can make. If you must have a truck in the next month it will take a lot of phone calls, emails, and luck to pay near invoice or less. If you can order or wait till this fall I would guess you can pay closer to invoice for a truck with less effort. In April I ordered my truck for $1400 under invoice. However, I called 20+ dealers and had to do all of the homework on my own without setting foot in a dealer or taking much of their time. Never lose site of the fact that sales people and sales managers come to work everyday with a single goal - make money by selling vehicles.

Quote from the X-plan rules: "For membership-based companies, you must provide a membership card that indicates a 90 day membership required prior to the sale date of the vehicle. Any one of the following are accepted : Membership Card, Invoice showing customer is within good standing and is current, or Screen print of Website ( Must show full name and member since information )."

Yup, I know what that says, but like I stated, when I got my PIN from the partner website, it said 60 days.
