Quick question -I have a 2001 Triton 4.6 Expedition- I located the fuel pump inside the left frame rail- at the area of the passenger door- I unscrewed the bracket and pulled the two retainers of the sleeves of the intake and outflow tubes- but the hoses will not come off the ends of the filter- no matter how hard I pull.... is there a special tool that will seperate the fuel lime (hose) from the filter? Also- when I remove it- does this particular model of fuel delivery system cause a pressure build up? I don't hear hissing when I unscrew the gas cap or anything whan I fill up- but I don't know if this matters- what do you guys use or do to plug or clamp the hose to prevent spillage? Last question- what do you guys think of gas treatment you know-- that STP stuff for carbs, fuel injectors not the stabilizer- but some of the other ones- and also is that high endand pricey - sythetic oil of any special value to my vehicle? Sorry so many questions- but I just discovered your ste and I can't help myself. You guys are the greatest!
oh- sorry- the filter was found on the passenger door on the driver's side of the vehicle- It looks like the Napa one I bought to replace it- where do most of you guys buy your parts?

Thank you for the very cordial and fast response. I am not familiar with the "shrade valve" can you please advise me as to the appoximate ocation of this valve- thank you again.
There is a tool known as a fuel line disconnect tool - this is REQUIRED in order to remove the fuel filter.
First you need to relieve the fuel pressure either through the use of a fuel pressure guage w/a bleed off valve; the second way is to remove the kick panel on the passenger side (inside) and remove the electrical connection from the inertia switch. after removing the electrical connection, start the vehicle and it should "die" (run out of gas) after a few seconds - the fuel pressure has been relieved.
Removing the clips, etc as you stated in your post is correct. You then insert the fuel line disconnect tool all the way in on the inlet side till it "clicks" and the same w/the outlet side. In this manner you can remove the hoses and just pull your filter off. Re-assembly is the reverse.
Check the fuel lines under the hood. In the metal section, there should be a shrader valve. It looks like a tire valvestem. You shoild bleed the pressure here after you do the inertia switch thing. This will eliminate all of the pressure in the line and help keep gas from spraying in your face.
The fuel line tools are readilly available at most auto parts stores. I know that AutoZone has them.

I recently bought the tool at Discount Auto Parts for $4.99. The key to using it is to push the fuel line onto the tool while pushing the tool into the fuel line. By compressing them together it will release easily.

fuel disconnect tools are available made out of plastic or metal. i bought the plastic type first but now use only the metal version. The plastic one didnt give me a problem but after several fuel filter changes i wondered about it cracking and breaking off inside the fuel line.
