96 f250 trans

I have a 96 f250 with a slipping trans will a 4r100 direct plug in or only the 4r100HD. These are the only 2 i can get access to right now but what will be easiest to get to put on

Either one will work, sort of.

4R100s have a PWM (pulse width modulated) torque converter lockup. The E4OD that you truck came with had an on/off lockup. The solenoids are different, and if you use the original PCM with a PWM transmission the lockup will SLAM on every time. You'll hate it. You can swap the solenoid body to an on/off one, and you need to add an orifice to the pump body to prevent the slamming.

im looking it up and can't find what im trying to find is there a kit to do it easier or will i have to buy separately
