Decoding Engine Parts
block above starter
not sure what this number means
A bit of Google says this as far as the block #. "E7TE CA is the engineering number (casting number). 8H28 is the casting date.
That does not tell you what vehicle the block is from. That only tells you the vehicle the block was originally engineered (designed) for.
E7TE-CA = engine part (2nd E) originally engineered for 1987 (E7) truck (T), revision level CA. 8H28 = cast on July 28, 1988
Ford shares blocks among many model lines and models. The E7TE block was used in many F/L/M models, including the Mustang from 1987 through 1990.
You have to get the VIN from the top rear of the block to know what vehicle the block is from."
"There should be a partial VIN stamped on a flat pad on the top rear of the block (behind where the lower intake would bolt on)."...." The "T" in that casting number is "Truck". E7TE-CA is an '87-'93 F-series truck block."

A guy can read on Mustang forums for days...
Good info! The truck has had a lot of “custom” work done lol. Is this the number you are referring to?
"Look at the first digit of the Ford block date code, which appears like a four-digit code, sometimes with a fifth digit representing the engine size or horsepower. The first number represents the decade year. For this example, in a four-digit code of "5E30", "5" means 1995 when appearing as the first digit."
It has a Dura Spark II ignition system and a stock emissions era 2-barrel intake,
