Hi folks. 2001 F-250 4WD with 7.3 diesel. CEL has been on since I bought it several months ago. Before buying, I took it to a local shop, and they could find no codes. I recently purchased a code reader and dug as deep as my device will go with no luck finding a reason it is on. It runs great and starts good. Recently went on a trip of 1000 miles and all was good. Got anywhere from 13-16 MPG.
Glad to hear it's starting and running well. At least you can use the rig while you figure this out.
What is the brand/model of your code reader. Some are not able to read codes on these trucks.
I would recommend using FORScan Lite on your phone and an ODBII dongle to read codes and perform diagnostic tests. Very cheap and very effective. Here's the how-to thread:
I have this reader. I also remembered that when the previous owner and I talked about the CEL, he told me no one could find a code, but it started after he had the ICP replaced. Maybe this info will help?
The scan tool must be able to read the J1850-PWM communication protocol. Check the specifications and capabilities of your scan tool and take the appropriate action from there.
I finally got around to checking my codes with the BAFX reader and FORScan lite. I almost wish I hadn't done it!
Between the time I ordered it and now, my starter crapped out. No biggie, but of course it did it at the worst possible time.
Now, I will need some guidance on where to start.
the codes I got were:
PO198 oil temp sensor high input
PO603 Internal control module KAM error
P1876 Transmission transfer case 2 wheel drive solenoid
B1483 brake pedal input circuit failure
Now, I need from the knowledgeable folks here a plan of attack. Where to start, and work my way through them. Or, am I just screwed? How bad will this hurt my wallet?
So many questions, so little time!
Ant thoughts on a course of action will be appreciated!
I've already begun stocking up on beer. This seems like a 1-2 case problem......
Thanks, I got it to clear, and the same codes came back. The more I use the scanner, the better I will get with it. This is all new to me.
EDIT:
I reviewed the instructions again and realized I had not correctly cleared the codes.
After CORRECTLY clearing the codes, only
PO198 oil temp sensor high input
PO603 Internal control module KAM error returned. I need to slow down and do this right. I will take a ride later and scan again to see if any codes came back.
The p0603 usually shows up after a power loss to the pcm, like disconnecting the batteries while working on engine. If it continues to come up I'd suggest inspecting and cleaning the connections. Grounding is a big deal on these trucks so chasing all the grounds down a cleaning them is a good idea also. The oil temp sensor code is likely a loose connector or bad wire to the plug. Probably nothing to get excited about but worth chasing down.
After researching the EOT sensor location, I went to check the connection and wires. This is what I found:
If I'm in the right location (rear of HPOP) then the sensor has broken off, and the PO must have removed it. No wonder I have a code! Looks like a trip to the parts store is in order. Anything special to know about replacing it?
