thanks tshelton for your reply. It looks like it is time to look for a new truck. one thing the mechanic did when i went to start the truck, was to go to the left rear to listen for the fuel pump. when this happens again i will have the wife crank it over and i will listen for the pump to engage. thanks again.

MY IAC acts up from time to time and it wont start with out giving it some throttle.Could be as simple as this.Next time give it some throttle and see if it starts. You said you did not give it any throttle when trying. The iac is an intermittent problem, mine does not show codes.

I had an F-150 that did the same thing. It would start when cold ( Upsate New York Cold ) and would run great untill it got up to temp then die. Wait an hour and start right up. After many days of troubleshooting it tunred out to be the engine temp sensor. It would tell the computer that the truck was "cold" even when it was up to temp and it would flood itself out! Worth a try. Hope you find the problem.

wainer, this is the same type of problem I had with my daughter's blazer. When you least expect it, it would crank over, but not start. When we got it towed in, by the time it got to the dealer lot, it would start every time.
They could not determine the problem.
This went on for a long time and after several tows, finally when it got to the lot, it would not start. The next am when they arrived to retrieve from the lot and take into the shop, it started. So, while it sat in the shop for a period of time while the mechanic was busy getting some diagnostic equipment ready, he went to start it and it was finally showing it's axx to them! Now, they could trace the problem. Guess what! Fuel pump!

They replaced the pump, problem was gone for a month, then it does it again. They determined it was a loose connection, possibly didn't get it tight they thought.

Then, a month later again, down it goes after a few mishaps in the parking lots. This time, they found a bulletin that the fuel pump wiring harness had a potential defect. They replaced the harness, but I told them I would not drive that truck off the lot again since I had so many problems, stranding my daughter each time. So, the moral of the story is it was the fuel pump, but I don't know if the harness fixed it for good or not. The next owner will be the one to find out I guess, unfortunately!

I have read where GM was having fuel pumps go out at approx. 60 - 75K miles. This one had 65K on it when we got it. So it matched other stories.

Hey Wainer

Whatever happend with your V10 not starting, mine is doing the exact same thing, it's also a 2001 V10, acting like it's not getting fuel, but turning over. And did just what you mentioned, check the fuel pump reset and fuse, all is good.

Got towed in to the mechanic yesterday. HELP, I just know it will start in the morning when they try. What did you finally come up with so I can tell my mechanic.

I think it was a Iac sensor. I have 6000 miles on the truck since then. have pulled my 5th wheel all the way to melbourne fla. have not had any problems. also ford updated the computer, with new updates.like i said in my posts, when this happened to me, it would always start after 45 min to one hour. hey let me know

well the problem we thought was taken care of was happening again. except it was stranding me for 3 hours at a time. the ford dealers in the south were of no help.

finally dumped the truck in florida!!!!!! now in the possession of a brand new f-250 v-10 of course, very good deal after building the truck on edmonds, and kelly. paid 700.00 over invoice plus got the 2500 rebate.
