been having an on and off problem with my v-10. think it may be a senser was wondering if anyone else had this problem. after driving approx 50 miles or after its warm , it refuses to start! like maybe the fuel pump. but fuel pump reset is ok, and so is the fuse for the fuel pump. happens whenever it feel like it, sometimes not for a month. has 30,000 miles anybody else had a problem like it? (turns over as if it is the fuel pump but likenI said checked the fuel pump kickoff switch, its ok and the fuel pump fuse also) help!!!!!!!!!
don't think it was a vaporlock, outside tempwas 56 degrees truck was only ran for about 45 minutes.
also I did not try holding pedal to the floor, because I did not feel it was flooded.have had this similar problem, when I top off the tank, and set the gas handle while washing windows. if the pump shuts off with a bang, I think it messes with a pressure sensor, because when I try to start after that , it also turns over fast. but not start. when I wait for about 3 min after this happening It will start. so I guess you know, I stay with it and fill my tank, slower.
Fuel pump cutoff switch and fuse being OK doesn't clear the pump itself of being bad (or on it's way out). If it cranks OK when warm but won't start, it may be low line pressure or a clogged fuel filter. I don't know why (if it was the filter being clogged) it would start OK when cold, but maybe the computer sends a higher pressure signal on cold start thus it can get going despite any filter blockage that then does prevent it from starting when warm.
Man, let us know when you find out what it is. I am stumped.
You might look for a frayed ignition wire. My old GMC had a problem like that. When it got hot, a frayed wire arced to "ground" and it wouldn't start either
took the truck to the ford dealership, its still under warranty. told them also to replace fuel filter.(required at 30,000 mi). called tonight they still have not found anything. I know the guy working on it , he is one of those guys that also hates to be stumped a real perfectionist. thanks all you guys, will keep yous posted thanks so much.
well here I go. got my truck back from the dealership today.they had it for two days. they said they had to update the computer with new spec's from ford, and they think!!--------- that should take care of the problem. replaced the fuel filter at my request .
warranty book suggests replacing the filter at 30,000 miles, which it has. I guess i'll have to put some miles on it this month, to check it out. will leave for florida, the day after christmas. can only hope it won't let me down then. Hey thanks again all you guys, for all your opinions.
thats great wainer, Like O willie say's ON THE ROAD AGAIN.
Them confounded computers, they should keep them on the desktop and out of the cars.
Have a good one.....
well im back again. truck died again same problem. got down to a quarter tank of gas. drove 25 miles went to the doctor. came out and would not srart. waited for an hour. started right up. took it to ford, they have it overnight. of course when we shut it off at ford it startrd perfect for them help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's that Dang Computer, It probably thought it was out of fuel ,
and then DAAA! it relized it was'nt and then it started.
I'm sorry I can't help ,Maybe someday someone will outsmart them Computers..
The only problem I ever had with my V-10 was Not idling at a cold start..mine is a 99' with 80000 miles so I cant complane much
thanks tshelton for your reply. It looks like it is time to look for a new truck. one thing the mechanic did when i went to start the truck, was to go to the left rear to listen for the fuel pump. when this happens again i will have the wife crank it over and i will listen for the pump to engage. thanks again.
