1986 EFI Timing
My 1986 5.0L EFI truck has always had the base ignition timing set at 10° BTDC as directed. I find it curious that with base timing set at 10° BTDC, when SPOUT is connected the ECM likes timing at idle to be in the neighborhood of 20° BTDC. Seems to move around just a bit too +/- 2° as the idle speed varies slightly around 700 rpm.
I have always thought that the timing at idle should be closer to the base setting. Or, is this just the way it is?
