Of course I just removed the bolt yesterday. Best is to get it started straight and just clean out the threads, you do not want to start it crooked and cut NEW threads. Liberal amount of PB Blaster or WD to wash out the crud in side, before and while cleaning with the tap.

NC is None Course, meaning the thread. So do not use a fine course tap. Now I use the HF stuff when I am cleaning out threads, but it I was to have to cut good thread in that area and any other critical tapping needed, I would definitely use WAY higher QUALITY made tools.
that would be national coarse, as opposed to national fine. In this case 9/16-12, where fine would be 18 threads per inch.

It is important to use a "thread chaser" in this application as opposed to a traditional tap. If you don't know the reason why give this a read ..

Exactly. I used a .50 caliber rifle brush and pb blaster: worked good enough…

Well given the maximum effective range of a 50 cal. rifle is 2,000 meters I won't need my reading glasses for this job then.

I guess making a terminology correction is sort of that same as helping in the 1st place....sort of. What the hell was I drinking when I said "none course" instead of national course. And then I go and say "tap (thread chaser)" like it is one of the same.

redroad nice link, thanks.

I suppose it is, sort of. As, if he goes looking for a none course tap online he will not be able to find one; and of course if he goes looking for one as opposed to a fine course tap in person, they may wonder if he’s having a stroke.

Yes. Passenger side is completely reassembled. Working on Driver side, now.
