I have a question for you guys that have way more experience with these trucks than I do. Was 1956 the first year that had the PRND2 indicator attached to the top of the column of the Automatic Transmission equipped trucks?
I must be missing a piece (or two) then. Thanks for the info.
If you pull the steering wheel, or even if you look at wherel the steering wheel meets the top of the column "bell" you might see the broken off remains of the old PRNDL indicator and the needle. Now days both are hard to find. I saw that Ecklers has the indicators for early 60's Falcons and you maybe able to use one of those, but as far as the needle goes, just keep looking at Ebay. Last I saw one there it was like $60 plus shipping.

Thanks guys for the information. Little by little I'm learning more about these old F100s. I had looked on Mid-Fiftys site and couldn't find the indicator part and then when I saw a picture of a '56 column for sale with the indicator it made me assume that the 1953-55 didn't have it. Now I know mine is missing.
In the process of searching I found an aftermarket piece offered by Sacramento Vintage Ford that is not a stock piece but would be good for custom applications. It's about halfway down the page. A PRND21 version and a PRND321 for overdrive. Sacramento Vintage Ford parts
Post a couple photos of what you have and I can tell you what's missing. Mine happens to be apart right now so I can show you photos. My OE shift dial was broken and my new one cost me $250. Purchased the last one from a gent who had made a hand full of them.
It better be an automatic one, that's what I bought. Here is a picture of the bottom end of it. It only has a single shift lever.
And I thought that manual shift has a tapered handle and not a ball end.
Could the indicator parts been previously removed?
Spring is missing. These were the only two parts in the little ziplock. The pieces to go under steering wheel.
In picture below does this look like the correct spring?
