Sorry my old computer won't play the video. Can you give us a brief explanation as to what you found? Is this showing the problem or what you found causing it?

I actually do have the video now - sorry about the bad attempts. Heads are on in this video - as soon as the water level drops below the heads, the water flow will stop. When removing the head on the drivers side, water will be found in the first cylinder every time.

Have you tried the correct gaskets, yet?

Thank you for the video. It would be hard to believe without seeing it. That still has me totally baffled how that amount of water could get into the main oil gallery?
Water in the cylinder could be a separate issue. Assuming you are using the right gasket is there any possibility the head location dowels are the wrong ones preventing the head from clamping down? Just a wild guess.

At this point, it could be anything! They do sit flat on the deck with the dowels, but the dowels could be a little high - I'll take a look. Yes to the gaskets questions - I have been using FELPro gaskets, but switched to Victor for this next round on attempts.

Using Victor gaskets this time around - we have established that the FELPro gasket pictured above is not the correct gasket for the EBU, but is for the EBV. I have an EBU engine also and one quick look at the heads makes it clear the FELPro gasket as labeled in the photo above does not work for a EBU 239 - 100% correct that EBU gaskets and EBV gaskets are different.

The Victor gaskets for the EBV have the same pattern as the FELPro gaskets I have been using - slightly different construction method.

Jim could really be on to something with the locating dowels being too high. I don't know much about the locating dowels that are in the block - really wondering now if the left front dowel is a little too high - when I pull the head after the water leaking, that part of the gasket is soaked with water and water is in cylinder #5. Shop manual doesn't have any info about the dowels. I'll measure the dowel heights next time I'm at the shop - does anyone have information on the correct height?

I used new ones on my last build but I'll see if I have an old one to measure. I cleaned up recently so I'm not sure I kept them.

Thats two different engines and I accidentally posted a wrong picture The complete one on the cart was an engine I built for my 57 Ranchero. It only has about 2-3000 miles on it. So then I decided to rebuild the original engine. and install it. Then I got bored during the shut down last year so I put the first engine on a cart I built from scrap to keep it running rather then just storing it on the floor.

But I don't know if the 239 used the same? I'm confused as to which gaskets you are using Are you saying you are using EBV gaskets on your EBU?

I don't know the spec for the dowels. Measure the depth of the hole in the block, measure the depth of the hole in the head, measure a head gasket (since you have a few, use the thinnest). The dowel should be a little smaller than the sum of those.
