I had a 2019 F250 that had the flat black paint. My 2020 F350 has the darker, glossy like paint. Both straight from the factory. I thought it was interesting why they were different.
It is a clever process but unfortunately the product applied is garbage. Not being UV stable isn't much of a factor but the very thin application and poor durability is. Now that the Super Duty frame is boxed it will be interesting to see what this frames look like in a few years in the harsher climates. Like F-150's and Wrangers I imagine if not protected. Wish Ford would go back to wax on the Super Duty.
Wax is the reason I didn't buy another GM. My 2015 GMC frame was rusted after 3 months. The wax coating was falling off in chunks. They dealer attempted to re spray it twice. Then they gave up.

yup. Especially if you drive in grassy ranch roads etc. it scrapes it off.
GM did have a supplier problem a few years ago. Frames were not prepped properly, nothing would stick to them.
The wax can rub off but it does leave a film behind (if it adhered correctly). Still needs to be touched up if the coating is damaged. The product is available in spray cans.
The E-coat scratches off easily too and leaves the exposed metal completely unprotected.
