Hey guys, I’m currently working on a 1975 F100. I am in the process of repainting the front clip and cab. My truck came with the upper trim that runs in the “dent”. It also has the rocker trim. I am removing the rocker moulding and filling the holes.
When everything was together, I did not notice any differences. Now that I have the trim removed, I have a difference between each side. The difference is in the lower rear corner. These are both below the main body line that runs approx 6 inches above the bottom of the fender.
My driver fender has an indent about one inch above the bottom of the fender running laterally.
My passenger fender is one, smooth rounded transition from the body line to the bottom.
I have one spare passenger fender and it is the same as the other passenger fender.
I’ve looked online and it appears you can buy either one. Is one of these fenders an aftermarket deal or were they changed during a certain model year?
Any suggestions to which one would blend better into the door would be appreciated. I can post some pictures later if this is confusing.
Yes post a pic, I have never seen a difference like you explain. AFAIK 73-79 fender is a fender is a fender. Yes the 73-76 has the (F100/F250) badge holes on the fender. 77-79 does not.
Good description 73FordFe !! I knew exactly what you were talking about as I have one also stored upstairs in my barn ! It was an AFTERMARKET fender purchased years ago along with others. I think I have a total of 9 new or good usable fenders. I was VERY surprised to see this 1 fender WITHOUT that horizontal body line.
Thanks for posting the pictures. I was looking for some also. I'm sure I've seen another thread about it, probably, here, but I can't find it by searching. I thought that's what the OP was talking about from the description.
Edit:
For reference, my factory '79 fenders have the crease that lines up with the bottom of the doors.
[QUOTE=73FordFE;19990254]Thanks for the replies. So you are saying the one like on the red truck I posted is aftermarket?[/QUOTE
Could be aftermarket, could have just had body work done and someone thought it looked better smooth.
1. People I trust on here say that the part numbers are the same for 73-79 fenders.
2. Because of what I know about my rig's history, the paint, etc. I believe my fenders are OEM.
3. If the fenders are the same for all years, and my fenders are OEM, then OEM fenders have the dent in them.
Take all that for what it's worth. There's a chance I could be wrong about my fenders originality, there's a chance the guys on this site with access to the Ford info are wrong and there was some change to the fenders over the years. Here's a picture of my fender.
Now I am learning something new and I am pretty sure I have not noticed that before, interesting to say the least. Now you have to going thru my truck pics.
Silver truck has it.
Ol red was getting some other trucks OEM fenders, they have it.
I see what looks like the bump out on ol blue.
440 sixpack "All Ford made fenders have that line.
It would either be sloppy body work or a chinese reproduction fender if it doesn't."
Yes! I would say anyone that sees a NON-LINE lower fender ( like the red truck example) in the o.p. picture or on their own truck, should realize it is an AFTERMARKET fender.
That is good to know. I was able to stop out and look at the driver fender on my parts truck. For having two sets of each fender, I only have one factory fender with the bottom line
