I guess one way to look at it is if you never noticed it before it doesn't really matter that much. but as cheap as nice original fenders are if you ever repaint it that would be a good time to make it ford again.
It's also possible if there was body damage a lazy body shop worker made it easy on himself and bondo'ed it in.

good point I have been slowly collecting nos lenses and such incase I ever paint it, I'll add fenders to the list the small details are nice. Not that it matters much with my rig, it's still all ford but from a few different decades.
The stamping should be on the inside of the top rail by where it mates up to the inner fender.
those codes look factory, the first number is the month, 2nd number is the day, letter is the plant and the 2 means second shift. year usually wasn't included. stamping did vary from plant to plant .
So if those fenders don't have the body line it's probably because someone didn't retain it during body work.

ill take a closer look at them I didnt see a mark from the back but I didn't crawl under with a light to look properly. This trucks a pretty early 73 built in california plant ,has a odd sensor in the drivers door jamb later dents dont have also
It's not impossible some were made without the line. and if such a thing does exist I'd expect it to be an early production thing before it was corrected. I have a '74 and it has the line.
The Boss F-100 example may be a deliberate restyling move. This is a highly modified example overall so the question of repop fidelity probably should be addressed with the more conventional examples. So let's collect images of unmodified dents to document this difference. This question may be a case for Number Dummy. He has reported in other cases that Ford made subtle changes but didn't promulgate the new part numbers very well. He knew but most others did not. Provinance is usually a preoccupation of antique and art dealers so we may be inchijng ourselves into that territory.
Here is what I got 73 f100 fenders don't have the body line in the bottom bur have the codes above. No evidence of bodywork from behind. They also appear to have original paint under a cappy 80s respray just like the rest of the truck does. But it's also almost 50 years old and I don't know it's history so anything could have been done while.it lived in cali Just some pics of what k beilve is org paint on each side Hard to see but behind bottom where body line would be
I can
t tell in the pictures but if the line seems to be there on the back then it's simply bondo'ed in. in it's not then that's a mystery.
I'd have to look closer but I don't think the bottom rocker trim would fit properly without that line. it would roll the bottom of the trim out and not line up with the door. if this is the case Ford simply would have never put out a fender without the line. they wouldn't put themselves in a position to have to match fenders with trim options.
