weird transmission problem

I hope someone here has a suggestion for this question. I have never posted so let me know if I do not provide enough information. I was just given 1986 Ford Bronco II. It is 4wd with a standard transmission and 2.9 liter engine. It sounds great --very quiet and starts easily. Here's the problem --it won't go anywhere! The clutch has resistance in it and I can move it easily but the Bronco never goes into any gear. Does anybody know where I should start with this? All of the different fluid reservoirs are full. I know I am going to need a garage to fix it but I would like to have an idea of what I am dealing with on it.

Thanks.

Welcome to FTE!!!

Can you move the shifter and feel the gears engage?

The shifter moves very easily and you can feel it movie from gear to gear, but the truck doesn't do anything. It doesn't even roll in 1st or reverse.

Your clutch disc is gone. You will need to pull the trans and replace it. While you're in there replace the press plate throw-out bearing and the pilot bearing. You can buy it as a kit.

This may be a very stupid qusetion and I apologize in advance, but what is the clutch disc? Is that in the same area as the slave cylinder? A relative suggested that might be a problem as well.

The disc is splined to the input shaft of the trans., the pressure plate is bolted to the engine flywheel. It (PP) smashes the disc to the flywheel, driving the trans. When the material is worn away from the disc there is nothing to hold it ( smash) Another thing to look at is that you may need to have the flywheel turned if it is no longer smooth Think of this as a type of brake and the material and flywheels wear just like brake pads and rotors ( grooves from the rivits)
