Need a passenger window regulator for the ‘89 Bricknose Supercab. Motor works but doesn’t turn the gear all too well. I’m aware of the trick of putting 3 metal nuts into the inside of plastic gear. Hardest part is drilling out the regulator mount rivers and once I’m there might as well replace the whole assembly.
There seems to be a wide variety of regulators on the market. I usually prefer to go OEM rather than aftermarket unless price difference is significant. Any recommendations? Can the motor be replaced separately? Thanks
If the only problem is the motor not working then you don’t need the regulator. Yes the motor can be replaced separately and you not need to remove the regulator to replace the motor. There should be dimples in the door showing where to drill holes to access the bolts that attach the motor to the regulator.
I’m not sure what this trick of putting three metal nuts in the inside of the plastic gear is. Never heard of it. If the gear is stripped out then buy the kit to replace the gear instead of replacing the motor. It is a lot cheaper.
Oh. Ok. That wasn’t the case for me. The teeth on the plastic gear were broken so I had to replace the gear. I believe the replacement gear was metal but I don’t remember. That was about 20
years ago.
