I had my Ford dealership install a trailer brake controller in my Ranger. The problem is the instructions are really poorly written and useless. Does anyone have the trailer brake controller installed in your Ranger and know how to work it?
There is a gain, sometimes on the dash from 1 to 10 others is shows on the TBC itself.
The gain is used to engage the trailer brakes sooner than that of the truck.. or more aggressively than the truck brakes.
The TBC also has a manual slider too it. Used to engage the trailer brakes only and in rare circumstances.
You use the slider to keep the trailer behind you if it starts to jackknife. Usually in rain but rarely if you are at proper speed for you conditions.
Now to set it all up so you are comfortable. Set the gain at 5. Then proceed to 25 mph and step on the brakes and see how it feels. Adjust from there.
The other time to use the slider is when first hooking up. Putting the truck in gear and just activating the slider before towing will tell you right away if you have a problem before you have a problem.
