well I have to install one in a 2006 silverado. It will be easy cause theres a connector for it, I was just wondering if Ford even considers that these trucks will be used for heavy duty and if they set them up for it.
yes. if you get the trailer tow package, a harness for lights is included, a 4pin i believe. Also, you get a plug for a TBC... my last ranger had one...
My Ranger wasn't wired for a brake controller. I had to wire it myself. If I remember, it's only 4 wires. But to work with a 7 pin connector, you have to run a 7th wire for trailer power.
And mine had the towing package. Not that it means anything, but it came with the 4 pin connector. So now I have both 4 and 7.
I haven't looked on my 03. Some where around 1990 the big trucks had the pig tail even if they didn't have trailer tow. And yes the controllers don't seem to come with the end on them that is usually and added cost item that you can buy. Since they don't know what make truck the controller is going on.
I need to add a 7 pin to my Ranger for mr Tent camper. Is there power any where in the back? I have a 1999. I don't think I will need brakes although the camper has them, but I would like power for the battery and fridge.
Oh also is a 7pin setup available that plugs in to the factory wiring or do I need to cut and splice?
Thanks Dan
I just added another 4 pin to the back and that way didn't have to wire up the lights. So got the brake, turn, and tail lights that way. Had to run a wire from the trailer brake controller in the cab back. I have the 7 pin, but I haven't ran a line back for power. I needed the trailer brakes more than anything else. Pulling a 3500 # horse trailer and horse.
Oh yea, I have a 96 with the seperate brake and turn lights in the back, so the connector took care of that for me.
