What's the story with electric trailer brake controllers? My buddy is buying the trailer, so I am going to spring for the brake controller on my truck. I know I want one with an adjustable threshhold (for rain or an unloaded trailer), but what is a good one to get, and how hard is it to wire in to a '98 B4000?
Thanks for the suggestion, I found some good info there. Now for a Ranger specific question. What does a "tow package" include on a Ranger/B-series? Does it include wiring for a brake controller in newer Rangers (more than just the 4 pin connector which I have)? If so, is it possible to adapt it for a '98?
My '03 Ranger SC 4.0 2WD (see sig) came w/ trailer tow pkg which included 4-pin connector, class 3 hitch, and tranny cooler.
I spung for a Tekonsha electronic brake controller. I think it cost about $250 turn key (installed, wired, adjusted, tested) when I bought my trailer. I'm pretty happy with it.
The guy that did the install does it all the time. I think it took him about 3 hours from start to finish including all wiring, mounting, adjusting to the trailer (18 foot aluminum), testing...
