Tomorrow I pick up my newly chromed 56 F-100 bumpers. What are the correct bumper bolts both front and rear? Somewhere I also read not to torque down the front bumper bolts incase of an accident. Supposedly if they aren't torqued down they won't transfer the shock to the opposite side. Your thoughts???
I use polished carriage bolts front and rear. It looks really clean. The front is probably not punched square but they still work. If you decide that is suitable I have a little stock left over from when I was selling polished stainless F100 hardware nearly 20 years ago. I polish them like a mirror and you really can't tell the difference from chrome. My chrome bumpers didn't stay rust free long but my bolts still look perfect I have hex heads and maybe button heads I suppose you could use on the front but I'm not sure if I have any of those polished at the moment. Carriage looks right to me. Anyway left me know and PM your address and I'll get some coming your way. .

No idea on the bolts for the bumper.
As for not torqueing down the bolts that makes no sense to me. They need to be tight enough so the bumper doesn't move to start with. As for shock transfer, the bolt is the same size as the hole so it will transfer. And why would you be hitting something in the front anyway? That would be on you.
Only reason I can think of to not over tighten the bolts is to avoid bending the metal. If the chrome adhesion isn't perfect I suppose that increases the chance of it popping. No reason you can't tighten them up plenty snug. Use a lock washer of course.
Dewayne,
I've tried 3 times to send you a PM and none have sent. Never had this issue before. I did just upgrade my iPad's software so that may be causing the problem.
Art,
With what I paid to chrome these bumpers I want the same quality bolts to go with. I think maybe Fatfenders may have the best solution using stainless. Only issue with stainless is it gauls if you don't use anti seize and then you've gotta cut em off.

One of them made it through. If I have stuff polished up already I'll mail it Monday. Pretty sure I do.
