I built my system to also inflate or add air to my trailer tires as well as the truck, I built my own mounts for the tank and the compressor..
Installed the tank above the spare and the compressor under the hood..
Wired in some solenoids for the air bags and used the switch's on the upfiter panel to turn on the compressor and to add air to the bag as well as deflate them...

That way its easy to access.
So true. So many people think they need a tank when they really don't.
Sure, power tools or air horns need a tank, but not bags or tires.

Even for TOOLS its no worth it. You mean get like 4 seconds of use from a air impact gun lol.

Do you need a tank for a train horn, or would dual compressors solve that?

I suppose there might be some single-trumpet horns that could get by without a tank (like a larger version of a Wolo Bad Boy horn). But, those wouldn't really be a train horn ... which has 3-5 trumpets of varying tones and consumes quite a bit of air.

I want a horn! I of course want it to air up tires too, but not really all that worried about running any tools, just have the QD out back by the license plate. I am planning to go with an ARB CKMA12 and a 2.5 gallon Viair tank. I'm going to wait for Black Friday though to wait for some deals... hopefully!

I have yet to read up on all the horns though... it seems like there are a lot of choices! I just know I want to put it on up fitter #1!

OK, have been researching for a while and with warmer weather, I am ready to install. Quick question on the wiring hoping someone can help with. Can I bypass the included relay and wire the both the positive from the pressure switch and the compressor to up fitter 5 or 6? The fuse on the provided power wire is 30AMP, so if I just change the 40A fuse out for a 30A fuse for that specific upfitter, will that work?

I guess the other way to wire it would be run the 30 amp power to the battery from the re-lay and the "12 v. keyed source" to a different upfitter since 40 amps would be overkill in that case.

moynihan1129 - you can’t bypass the relay as the pressure switch isn’t designed to switch 30+ amps. If you look on the switch its prob 15A or less. You can use a 40A upfitter to power the relay thats what I did. Also remember that as distance increases voltage drops and amps increase. I ran 8g wire from upfitter 5 to the back of the truck. This connected to terminal 30 on the relay.

I edited the wiring diagram in red. Only difference is my relay is 30A . I think this is how you are suggesting using the re-lay, correct? I wire both the pressure switch and the relay to the upfitter power that I run to the back?

The relay is really important everyone. Without it, the pressure gauge will eventually weld itself in the on position and the pump won't stop. I recommend getting a relay rated for 10-30A more than the pump you use says it is rated for.

Looks nice. I was taught a compressor under the hood is a no can do. I believe 160F is the max temp the Vlair runs in.
