Clutch fork help

Hello!
my clutch pedal has a stupid amount of play in it so i got under the truck to check it out. my clutch fork appears to not be seated on the pivot ball, as it can be moved up and down (not horizontally as it does to disengage clutch). thus, when i press the clutch pedal the fork moves sideways before depressing fully and separating the clutch. Anybody have this problem? can i swap out the fork and/or pivot ball through the dust cover rather than dropping the tranny? thanks

This is a 4.9 300 I6 fork but has yours slipped off some how? You should be able to see if you slip the dust shield back out of the way.

Our clutch fork is the same as the one in post #2.
Here is what it looks like from the inside.

Try to pull it outward to re-seat the clip on the pivot bar.
