Clutch going CRAZY!!!!

95 Ford F150 5sp

First when the weather got cold (same thing it did last years) it became hard for me to shift into gears and started slipping. It would even grind sometimes. So I thought maybe the clutch line needed to be bled. I followed the instructions in my Haynes manual. Not only did it not improve but it seems worse and when i put it in first then press on the clutch and try to go into second its like the clutch won disengage. i have to pump the clutch like two or 3 times for it to fully disengage. Also when I have it in neutral and the not pressing on the clutch I hear rubbing then when I press the clutch I dont hear it. Then last nite when I was backing into my drive way and i had it in reversed and it goes backwards but when I press the clutch it wanted to go 4ward even though I was still in reverse. But only when I press down on the clutch to release it does it do any of this wacky stuff. Someone PLEASE help me. What is this?. Thank you.

does the clutch grab when the pedal is down low, or grab when the pedal is up high? i had a similar problem and it ended up being the bushings for the clutch pedal. grab your clutch pedal and see how much play there is. if you can wobble it back and forth or up and down, then the bushings might be shot. try holding the clutch down for a few seconds before shifting or putting it into gear.

It grabs even when it's NOT in gear. But it's REALLY bad when I'm coming out of 1st gear and reverse. Feels like something is going to give. There is no excessive play int the clutch pedal.

Would you please clarify this. Does the clutch slip when you are driving along with the clutch pedal fully engaged(pedal up)?

it seems like more of a transmission issue than a clutch issue. it grabs while your in neutral?

Yes it does!!! How could that happen and is the transmission shot or is it something that can be repaired. I have the transmission out right now and the slave cylinder does have brake fluid on it. Can a leaky slave cause this or do I have multiple issues. Could it possible be the clutch itself? I just dont want to start replacing things aimlessly.

I was thinking maybe one of the coil springs in the clutch disc had broken out of it and was loose in there binding. While you have the transmission out I would definitely unbolt the the pressure plate and inspect it and the clutch disc. You will probably want to replace them anyway.

my old nissan used to ghost ride in neutral when it was single digit temps. It had 90w in the tranny though.
