I have a 2002 F250 with about 54,000 miles. The engine when idling seems to be missing every so often. When I accelerate the engine also hesitates and runs sluggish.I took it in to a local dealership and they replaced two injectors. They said that they were not able to tell exactly which injectors were bad and want me to bring it back so that they can pull all the injectors and flow test them.
Do you think the dealership is on the right track, I don't want them to just go on a wild goose chase and start tearing my engine apart.Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
just a note to say that mine is doing this also. i haven't done anything to it yet. just want to ask more questions on this subject: what are the symptoms of worn o-rings in the injectors? would the high pressure oil pump have anything to do with it?
Injectors should NOT be worn with only 54K miles. Did you check/change your fuel filter? That would be my first guess. I suppose you're out of warranty and that is why the dealer wants to only check a couple of injectors at a time?
Yes I have changed the fuel filter and it has since gone back to the dealership. This time they changed out the cam position sensor, and I did not even get off the dealership lot and the check engine light turned on.
The work is being done under the 100,000 mile engine warranty, but the mechanic says he needs to be careful about doing to much injector work because Ford will get suspicious since I have a Banks exhaust and am running a chip. All I know is that the truck runs like crap and something needs to be done warranty or not.Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Make sure the oil isn't overfull, it will aerate and screw up the pressure the fuel gets pumped out at by the injectors. This sounds crazy and simple but...I don't know what kind of oil you are using but try changing the oil and putting in motorcraft oil and see what happens. I have switched back to motorcraft oil from rotella and my engine idles smoother. The local ford mechanic told me that the motorcraft oil won't aerate as easily as rotella or others.
Shop around for the motorcraft oil. There are big price differences between different dealerships, as much as 50% in my area. Local auto parts store also carries motorcraft but only in 1 quart jugs. I do know and can tell when I'm close to needing an oil change because the engine clatters more and the idle gets rougher. After the change, she quiets right back down.
