I"m looking at getting a compenent 6.5 set for my 84 f150 and i want ot knwo what you folks have found is the best place to position teh tweeter in the doors to get proper staging
Well, on a home stereo, you usually try to get the drivers alligned so that the sound from each reaches your ear at the same time. However, in a car stereo, this usually becomes secondary to getting the tweeter up and with a direct shot at your ear so the highs aren't buried in the upholstery. Some like to bounce the highs off something hard like the windshield (this also provides more of a "center stage" sound), but most prefer the "A" pillar or high on the forward part of the doors.
The other option is to place the tweeter near as possible to the mid as has been suggested, and then equalize it (ie.: turn up the treble). That's actually an oversimplification of what Bose does on many of their OEM systems.
