So here I am again trying to get some input. Does any one use the amsoil in their diesel. If you do which one and why. I’m thinking about is it worth spending the money on it. I own a 2015 superduty with just 135,000 miles on it. Let me know
i have never seen a need to spend that much for amsoil when im changing oil every 5k miles. I usually use Mobil 1 synthetic which i can get for 23 bucks for a 5 quart bottle.
If you are referring to the fuel additive, no, I never used it. There are other products that go a lot further and work just as well.
If you're referring to engine oil, yes, I used it, and it DID help with stiction in the injectors WHEN I WAS USING NON-SYNTHETIC OIL. Switching to Rotella T-6 full synthetic accomplished the same end goal for a bit less $$.
I think you will find that stiction is more of a issue with 6.0 motors than it is with 6.7 so that shouldn't be a issue for you. FWIW, I used to sell Amsoil and I will attest that it is a great product but I don't use it in my '15 6.7. I stuck with Rotella T6 and it serves me and my engine well. I can't see any appreciable gain with Amsoil.
I have been using Amsoil in my 6.0 diesel truck and my boat for over the last ten years with good results.
My boat is a motorsailer that we use to travel 5000 to 6000 miles a year. Perkins says to change the oil at 200 hours. I change the filter but not the oil every 200 hours.
I use the Amsoil heavy-duty marine 20-50 synthetic oil. that is rated for 800 hours. I changed it at 800 hours and I sent in a sample to a lab. The oil was still fine to go.at 800 hours.
My 2005 Ford 6.0 F350 dually has an F450 rear end with 4.30 rear gears
Amsoil rates the marine 20-50 oil for 25,000 miles. I have used it since breaking. After 20,000 miles the lab said that the oil was good to use.
I have changed my oil filter every 10,000 miles and the oil every 20,000 miles.
I had considered Mobile 1 buy Amsoil has better ratings for HD use and protection of seals.
I read that Amsoil did a test in an over the road semi for 50,000 miles without changing the oil.
The motor was torn down and rated as good as from the factory tollerances.
Another Amsoil user here, I use Amsoil HD Diesel & Marine 15W40 in our 6.0 Ex. Just had the heads removed and replaced at 150K miles, and the shop owner who I've known for a long time wanted to know what oil I was using. Everything inside/oil-lubricated looked perfect, honing on the cylinder walls still visible.
Also use the Marine 10W40 Marine in 4-strokes Yamahas on a 31 ft center console boat, and their 2-Stroke Injector oil in a 115 Merc Optimax. And their marine grease in all my trailer bearings.
I'm not an Amsoil fanatic, and readily admit that other oils would probably have performed as well, But I haven't had any oil-related failures, and am willing to pay extra for what might be keeping me, and my family, a little more secure when offshore or in the Bahamas, or when towing long distances to get there.
I have had cam lobes wiped in both a Ford Taurus SHO using Castrol Syntec years ago, and in my daughter's Honda CRV that was using whatever the local tire shop was using. Both of those cars were bought used, so I have no way to know how they were treated before we bought them, but we had put quite a few miles on both of them both.
