There are a couple ways to check. One is to measure the primary and secondary windings. Most auto repair manuals describe how to do this, however each brand of coil will have different readings.
The way I could tell was by checking the spark. Pulled one spark plug wire off a spark plug and slipped a screw driver into the wire. Place it next to a good ground on the engine to draw off a spark. A good coil will give a blueish white spark. A faulty coil would give a yellowish spark. In our case it kept bouncing back and forth from good to bad while the engine was running.
did you make sure to replace your frame ground ? some thing that i also do is run a ground from the battery to the frame , i dont knopw why this is comeing to mind , must be my old age catching up, good luck bob p.s. what did you do with the egr valve? up here in alaska we cant run those aftermarket air cleaners due to iceing .are you running heat to your snorkle? makeing sure that is hooked up clears up a lot of problems up here.
