Long time lurker here finally registered to be a member. Anyhow i have a 2017 f350 lariat ultimate pkg with push button start. I was thinking as i was filling up this morning i leave my truck run and my key fob is in my pocket. (get the annoying 2 honk at you once you leave the truck annoying to say the least) anyway what if someone drove away in my truck. Once the truck gets so far away from the keyfob does it quit running? Or is the truck not that smart? I'm not worried about someone stealing the truck was just curious on what the truck would do.
Here is a pic of my truck (not that it matters)
Thanks to everybody here lots of valuable information on this site!
You would need forscan to remove the two honk and also enable “police mode” which will not allow the truck to be shifted out of park when key fob is not present. So to answer your question it will drive away right now if someone wanted to steal it.
It will drive until the tank is empty or you hit the button to turn it off.
The above reply is the correct one and after awhile, there will be a warning on the dash to let the driver know that the proximity key cannot be located.

^^^ Yes ... best two Forscan changes I ever made. Recall reading a thread here about a fellow who started his truck and went back inside his house to retrieve a forgotten item. He drove several miles from home and shut the engine off at his destination, and then realized he left his fob on the kitchen counter.
It's hit or miss on whether you can drive it without the fob in the truck. My 2019 came from the factory with secure idle already enabled. My buddy's 2018 did not.
Easy enough to test - start the truck, put the fob outside, try to take it out of Park. If you can you need to enable secure idle with Forscan. Get rid of the double honk, enable Bambi mode, etc.
Pretty stupid of Ford to not have it enabled as a default on all of their vehicles.
And how often is anything related to lighting actually enforced?
I ask because of the countless number of morons running around with HID kits in their halogen housings, throwing blindingly bright light everywhere but the roadway and the staggering number of vehicles I see every week that have a headlight out, a brake light out, etc.

That depends on your location. Bambi mode can prevent a vehicle from not passing the annual safety inspection in VA. Of course, that won't stop someone from turning it off before the inspection and reactivating it later.
Depending on the year it will lock the vehicle in park when the keyfob is not detected so someone could not shift it out of park without the fob. It can be activated in all years with Forscan, but I think it's only been standard programming since 2019. I think it's called "Police mode".
Also easy to turn off the double horn honk with Forscan.
