Hello, has anyone suffered from (or know some-one who has) a broken crankshaft? I have a 2002 model F250 with 7.3 powerstroke which at 45000kms broke the crank through the number 1 & 2 big end journal where the journal meets the webbing. In Australia, Ford say that they have never heard of this ever before. Seems suss.
Just got the truck back 2 days ago with a new short motor. Seems to smoke (blue) at idle now.
At the time of engine failure, dumped about 6liters (1.5 gallons) of coolant into the sump. Ford couldn't tell me where it came from? Perhaps a blown head gasket and the hydraulic lock damaged the crank?? Any ideas of feedback appreciated.
Regards,
Feathers
I have a 99 F350 with a 7.3PSD and I had a problem with a constant oil leak from the front oil pump housing. I replaced several parts including the housing, seal, and harmonic balancer thinking these were the issue. Finaally I had a Ford diesel tech with 20 yrs exp. inspect the engine and he feels the crankshaft is broken. The worst of all this is the truck only has 161,000 kms (100k miles) and I just got it, thinking the oil leak was a simple seal replacement. Where did you get you shorrt block?

I just bought a rear axle from a guy that broke the crank in his 99 at 95K miles, starting to sound like while not something that happens every day it may not be that uncommon.
