Can anyone tell me if my truck has a tow package based on my VIN? The truck is at a second home and I am trying to figure this out remotely.
I recently put a deposit on a TT that I intend on picking up in Sept. I am unsure if I have the tow package or not. I am starting to think I don't have the capacity without the tow package.

Well that truck definitely doesn't have the max tow package. It does have the base package and you are limited to 8k towing (highly optimistic). In reality you won't have the payload to hit 8k pounds if you travel with any passengers or cargo in the truck.
5.0L, 3.55 GCWR13500, Max trailer weight 8000. Max payload 1659.
I noticed on page 13 of the 2014 ford truck towing guide this note to achieve max towing capacity:
Sooo, my concern is if I have the tow package or not. I don't think I have it. So it looks like I am limited to 5000 Lbs.
Thats why I asked if the VIN is showing the tow package.
If I don't have the tow package, can I install an OEM or aftermarket transmission fluid cooler and call it good? or am I missing something. I am concerned about AT temps and engine cooling too. I was trying to avoid purchasing a different truck and just work with what I have.
Or, should I see how the temps do before committing to any modifications?
Thanks.

The Vin does show it was equipped with factory tow package. Does this truck have the factory brake controller?
you could get a dealer to print you a copy of the original window sticker. This would show you the options selected. my local dealer did it for free for me and i didnt purchase from them.

Thanks, and thats good info. I do have the original sticker but its in the glove box. So I am just trying to work with the VIN. I did call a Ford parts department and from what they were seeing, It already has a transmission "super" cooler as well as the largest radiator available for the truck. I still want to verify that with my eyes.....

Thanks, I did call the parts department in the area and they concur. It does not have the brake controller, but it does have the receiver and 7/4 pin connector as well as the tow/haul button and some other do dads in the menu. I will have to see with my eyes when I am in town with the truck to verify equipment. So, its looking good.
Heres another question for the seasoned guys. Should I modify my rear axle from the 3.55 to the 3.73 for about 1400 more Lbs. of head room on the towing capacity and the combined vehicle weight? I figure maybe to make things a bit easier on the overall drive train...

I had a 2012 F150 5.0L and 3.55's and pulled a 6000#dry/7500 GVWR 33' trailer and it seemed to have plenty of power. I would wait and give it a try before you drop $2k on new gears. I moved up to a 250 only for the better handling, braking and reduction in sway.
Changing gearing will not change a thing from a legal standpoint, you will have the same rating no matter what you change after the truck left the factory. I would also agree that you should wait and see before making changes.
