The vent issue is usually a vacuum issue. By heater box under the hood should be a black box with lines going to it. I believe that helps control the hvac stuff.
You can recharge at alot of places if using R134a. Might want to check it for leaks, most shops machine would do this automatically, also.

do you know what I should be troubleshooting for? Damaged vac lines maybe or is it a mechanical issue in this case only a part replacement?

I don’t believe it’s leaking. I’ve had the truck for 3 years and owner before had it for 5 years and never refilled AC. So 8 years no AC service has been done that I am aware of.
what is easiest location to refill R134a in the system?
Under the hood on passenger side firewall there's a diaphragm that has a white vacuum line which usually rots away, you can easily fix it by using 3/16 vacuum line.
As for refilling your AC system if you have no AC gauges it's better to take it to an AC service place and have them check pressures you might have the right amount but there could be a problem with the fan clutch, clogged condenser (covered in mud, or grass etc..) which can easily be cleaned out.
Buy some good gauges, Mastercool or Yellowjacket. Any decent vac pump works fine, even a Harbor Freight one...run it in, change oil. Then use it. Buy a good side can tap.
Truck takes 38oz of 134A. Easiest to buy three, 12oz cans. Highly recommend to buy an oil charge can, most places just do refrigerant only. Even a few ounces of oil helps.
Inspect vac lines as stated. Pull fan and make sure no **** is plugging evap. If have a bug sprayer douche it out with something like Purple Power or Simple Green. Clean condenser while farting around. Road debris plugs em with junk.
Thanks to everyone for your help!! It was the vacuum line and I replaced/spliced hose where damage was.
this forum has been a great source for information.
thus far I’ve received help with brakes, drive shaft, transmission torque converter and now my AC. You’ve all been great! Thanks again for keeping my truck going
