Finally got around to mounting the Viair 2.5g tank and ARB CMKA12 compressor. They are both shielded very well by the spare tire. I do have som thin rubber sheet I am going to make a splash shield. Ive had ARB in my Jeeps and never had water get in. I was going to use upfitter 6 for power but I want to use that for 40A DC/DC charger for the RV house batteries. So I am Just waiting on the Switch Pros 9100 for switching.
Nicely done! I've had viair systems in my last 3 SDs. The first was frame mounted like yours, though I just ended up doing self contained systems mounted in the front of the bed on the last two with a line running to a air block at the back of the bed. Such a useful thing if you tow. I wouldn't be without one now.
Long time ago I had a York engine driven compressor on my TJ. My JK had an ARB twin. No tank needed to fill 37s. The twin would be overkill for the F350 so I chose the single. Same setup I had in my Excursion and it drove the Horn Blaster Shocker XL just fine. Now I just need to find room under the 350 for the train horns. Way too many distracted drivers to perform evasive maneuvers in an F350 towing a 30’ 11K # RV
Nice work!!! Where are you putting the switch pro display?
Very happy with the functionality on mine, but might move it the display. I have it in the blank space above the headlight switch but find it hard to see when driving.
I put a wolo the chief horn in the side rail by the passenger door, and tied a relay to an up fitter to toggle the horn switch. Used it a few times for exactly what you described.
Nice! I want to do this on my truck once I get it. I have been looking at the ARB compressors and the Viair Compressors. Currently I have a smaller, portable Viair compressor, but don't think it will work very well for the larger 275/70 R18's that will be on my SD once it gets here. I like the idea of an onboard system. I would use it primarily for just topping off tires if they are low (I won't be lowering the pressure to offload, however, if we are ever near the beach (much less often) I could see lowering the pressure for any sand driving), and then for an air horn and eventually maybe some air bags. I was thinking about this little single ARB compressor with the 2.5 Viair tank like you have. I would also hook it to upfitter 5 or 6, but like you I am also wanting to install a DC to DC charger for my camper and was thinking about hooking it to either 5 or 6 to use as simply a cut off switch. Just curious, you said you wanted to use it on 6 but was using the DC to DC charger for it, so do you already have 5 tied up?
Also, that install looks pretty simple, which gives me hope since I would really like to do it myself rather than having to pay a shop to do it for me. It doesn't look like you used any special mounts either, just mounted right to the truck? I assume you are still keeping your spare in place? And did you buy the ARB "Kit" or just the compressor and air tank separate and then just pieced together the hoses and extra stuff? If so, do you have a parts list?
Silver Plate - this should be done at the factory any day now. 2022 Outdors RV 260 RLS Titanium
Squirrel, That's a nice coach and a nice clean install on your truck. I'm waiting for a 2022 29TRX (March 2022 build date) and luckily it comes with an air compressor, plus I carry one.
Squirrel, I'd also be interested in knowing how much clearance you have from the road with the Bulletproof hitch with 8" drop and adaptor. I want the same set up with a 1600/16000lb Equalizer. With the adapter pushing the hitch out further away from the tailgate I'm wondering if the tailgate will clear the jack when tailgate is dropped. I've read that it should but I guess that depends on whether you have the hitch in the rise or drop position.
Are you airing up and down a lot? I have a PowerTank for my Jeep and have considered a compressor for the truck. I’d like to air down when not towing, air up to tow, etc.
