More E4OD fun. Manual shift mode?
Replaced tranny in 90 E350 5.8L.
Purchased a new torque converter and a used tranny from a '91.
Installed it last week. Hooked up the all the connections and checked for leaks. Reverse is great but it wants to take off in 3rd. Will only go to 1st. 2nd. or 3rd. if I manually position the shifter lever. No OD lockout light on the dash either. I know the light works because it will come on briefly when starting.
I know to recheck all the connections again and make sure they are dry but what else should I be looking for?
Thanks

The Solenoid block harness connector can become brittle and the wires coming out of it can have the insulation burned or corroded off despite the heat shield being in place. Also, make sure all the pins in the pin block are straight and not bent. Found another problem which is probably related. Instead of having a throttle return spring or cable, some genius has put a screen door spring on the throttle body to have it return to idle. I am assuming the cable is supposed to plug into somewhere and not just used as a return spring.
