Enter your vehicle VIN # on the Ford Parts website & toggle over to the tranny exploded parts diagram for the tranny & wheel size it was shipped with,to see if the gears match & to get the retainer P/N.
OK got a junk yard clip and gear and speedo works sometimes then just drops to zero ,,,, think it is the gear in the dash broad and I have a donner cluster with close to the same miles will trade it out this weekend ,,,, but first will check the wires to tranny again just to be sure. Thanks for all your help again Pawpaw !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok I replaced the dash cluster with a donner and so far it is working but I was wrong about the mileage being close. Old cluster showed 113000 miles and not sure how long it had been not working so mileage is a guess. Donner cluster has almost 300000 miles but speedo is working at the moment . Truck does not smoke or use any oil so makes me think not much more than the 113000 miles and not sure if it is the original motor. Still not sure if speed will be correct with junk yard plastic gear and clip I put in but if it is off any it is on the fast side so at 70 I may only be doing 60. This is fine for now because I am sure I will not be speeding LOL . Thanks again Pawpaw for all your help !
Ok good feedback on getting the speed-o working again. way to hang in there & see the anomaly through to a successful ending. To check its calibration, go to a "sign posted / measured mile" section of road, the state Department of transportation can give locations, hold your speed constant @ 60mph between the signs / marks & if the speed-o is correct it'll take one minute to travel between the marks @ 60mph.
We can also use our cell phone GPS to check speed, or odometer accuracy. Not like having it bench tested / certified but close enough to know if its way off.
