To preface, truck is an 07 f250, 123k on the clock. Its got all the works, studded, deleted, new this and that, whatever. Exhaust wise, it’s what appears to be a 4inch aftermarket exhaust, no cats or anything.
Ive noticed when I start my truck up, my VGT value stays at 85 and I hear no turbo spool, just throaty loud exhaust for about 10-15 seconds, but after I start driving it spoils and I hear the whistle.
I’m only getting about 8 or so pounds of boost cruising around town, slow speeds low rpm, 35-40 MPH 1200-1400 RPM.
I got on it on the freeway today and was WOT for a bit and it built Up to 20 or so pounds of boost.
Is this anything to be concerned about or should I be fine? I’m assuming nothing is wrong with my turbo as I’m getting what I think are normal boost values respective to my driving. I don’t haul or drive like an ***, just normal back and forth, gym, work, errands and ****.
Your boost numbers at low power seem reasonable, however your WOT numbers look low. My truck is completely factory stock, and going down the on-ramp to the freeway I see 22-25 PSI depending on throttle position, and at WOT I hit 28 PSI pretty quick (about 3 seconds) and maintain the 28 psi until I back out of the throttle. Good luck, Russ
When the various This and That work was done and the turbo was off, was it bench cleaned and checked? My '07 has boost like Russell's - I jump on it and see 26s to high 27s psi. Sounds like your VGT is sticking? And not from my experience, but from reading here, if the EBP gets clogged up or a faulty sensor, that affects turbo operation - you use string trimmer line to clear the EBP tube...
