Sub box

I had a buddy of mine look at my sub box. it is ported and hits real hard. He helped a buddy of mine who had a sealed box and he put something in called polyphil or something that made his box hit real loud. I was wondering what this polyphil does. Ne help would be appreciated

polyfil is like the stuffing of a pillow
it goes inside the box to help slow down air movement, and i believe it's suposed to make the enclosure behave like a "larger" box
I think it's suposed to help break up standing waves also
