I have a 2004 F350 V10. Recently replaced compressor and Dryer. Noticed freon was low, so added a full can. Air blows cold and strong until i drive for 30-50 miles at highway speeds, then it gets warm and eventually starts blowing very weak. Once i let it sit for a bit, back to cold and strong. I generally drive from about 5500 feet down to the valley at 1500 feet where it is significantly warmer when this happens. Any ideas what may be causing this? Many thanks!
when i connected the refrigerant can, the gauge on the can was well below where it says it should have been
That's your first mistake. Chances are you overfilled your system. As Sho posted above, have it properly evacuated and recharged using measuring equipment. FWIW, I've seen this too many times when customers try to charge their ac themselves. Those recharge kits have made me thousands of $$ over the years. You can't count on that gauge being accurate.
