I’m having an A/C issue and can’t seem to figure it out. Check refrigerant and it is within acceptable level. When first started air blows nice and cold. This usually last 10-15 miles then air gradually warms until it is just blowing room temp air. I can mash the throttle and as the engine revs increase the air begins to blow cold again. This will last 5-10 miles then slowly warms again.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
If the 134 is marginal, that could be a problem. At idle with AC max cold and fan max, the compressor should not cycle and the dryer should be pretty cold to the touch or in high humidity sweating. I’ve had my X for 15 years and every 3 to 4 years I have to get it recharged. My problem is a minor compressor shaft seal leak and I have been told to live with it.

I did check refrigerant level and it was good. Doesn’t seem to be the issue. Did wonder if the drier can just wear out? Just guessing at this point.
Sounds like your clutch is slipping as it heats up. Fairly common in high mileage Fords.
Next time it fails and you can safely do so, stop and pop the hood and see if the clutch is engaged. if not, tap it with something to see if it snaps in. If so, either perform a shimectomy or replace the clutch hub.
If that's it, it's an easy fix. I've done it on my past 2 fords. Remove the bolt from the center of the clutch, carefully remove the clutch assembly, remove the thin washer( there are two of them) and reinstall the clutch, bolt and your done. The gap in the clutch gets to be to big, that washer is .040 and will bring the clutch closer.
