Hey guys, you all helped me on my last problemm, which the Ford garage did not, and I need it again. I had Ford check the a/c for a leak because I was getting some erratic air temps while in a/c mode. They found the compressor shaft seal was leaking and they fixed it and said temp was blowing 44f, which it is. However, if i am driving down the road, in town or freeway, and I switch it to a/c the temp does not stay cold. It will fluxuate between super cold to almost warm then back to cold. I read where others have had the air go to the defrost but mine just goes to warm, same air flow from the front vents. It's almost like the outside air is mixing with the cold air for a period then a door closes all the way and it is only cold again. I did notice driving through needle, ca. on the ay back home that if I left the a/c on and put the truck in park and let it run for 3-4 minutes that the problme would go away. I did this as a test and it the a/c froze us out, i actually had to turn it down but not off. WIERD. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Jimmt Bench

P.S. I live in CA and my mileage is terrible I would say. I get 11.5 to 12 in town no matter how I drive. On our last vacation, we drove to Yellowstone and all through CO coming home, 80 on the freeways, averaged 16.9 for entire trip. Not as good as you guys say. I ever have a Leer camper shell.
Sounds like the compressor may be kicking out for too long at higher rpm's. You would need to check the low pressure in the system when this is happening. Could just be a faulty pressure switch keeping the compressor off too long when cycling.

Wouldn't Ford check that when they had it in the shop? Is this switch something that I can check or do a test on. When the truck is parked and just idling the temp is real cold like it should be.
You can really only check it with a/c gauges hooked up and holding the rpm up and see how it acts. If it is still under warranty, take it back and tell them to fix it right. Ford is supposed to stand behind their repairs so the problem is obviously not fixed.

Well, here's an update. I replaced the pressure cycling switch ($12.50) and it works now. Jetnjmy, you might give that a try. If it doesn't work, at least it isn't a costly mistake.
