My Son has my 1996 Ford F150 XLT with duel tanks. Problem he is having is when he puts gas in back tank it won't take gas no matter how slow he runs the gas pump. He has a pinched hose on front tank but I didn't think this would affect filling of rear tank.
We just had a similar issue on this forum. Turns out the OP had a full tank already and did not know it. Granted this was on a Bronco, but the concept is the same...full tank equals no fill from the nozzle.
Are the problems related? Did the issue with filling the rear only arise after the issue with the pinched line on the front tank? I find I have to pull the nozzle as far back as back as possible when filling to keep the auto shutoff from activating. It seems to need more venting while filling. If the rear is empty, it seems like the pinched line needs fixing so he can run off the front tank if no gas will go in the rear.
The common problem that occurs with dual tank trucks is fuel transfer between tanks, there are check valves that are supposed to prevent this built into the FDM inside each tank but they tend to start leaking with age, or if the vehicle sits unused for an extended periods evaporating fuel leaves behind a lot of gunk that tends to foul these valves.
And fuel level senders are separate for each tank.. something people don't seem to realize, these things are also a common failure point so gauge readings should not be trusted especially oif the truck is newly acquired.
Does rear tank show level, supposedly, more than below Empty, but less than completely full, already, is why he is trying to put gas in it. do you hear the rear pump run when you turn the key to 'ON' position, but not trying to start?
That would be the first thing I would check. My F250 had the same problem on the front tank because the inner hose had kinked and gas could not get through. don't know why it kinked, but I fixed it by putting stainless steel spring in the hose to hold it open. it has worked for about eight years.
