I am having some trouble get gas into the tank. The tank is 2yrs old. Sometimes I can only get 1-2 gallons in, sometimes full, & sometimes 1/2 tank. My filler hose is not bent or kinked & from what I can see, the vent line seems unobstructed. I popped the vent line off a few weeks back, blew into it, & gas blew out of it. I carry a large wood block to drive up on just in case I run into a problem, but now that doesn't seem to work all of the time!
I was haveing a problem with my 78 at a small one pump store it turned out to be the pumps problem not mine . The owner came out and used a screwdriver to "adjust" some thing inside of nozzle(he called it a few nice names) and then it worked better then any I have ever used. I would try a couple differnt places to see if that may be your problem to. I do not remember what he called the thing in the nozzle, but I think it is the device that shuts the pump off when tank is full. Most places seem to have it set to sensitve to keep people from over filling and spilling gas on their lots.
i have a similar problem with my 76 F-150, the gas always backflows and spills everywhere, at most gas stations i can only run the pump at about half flow, if that, its annoying, but the only way to fix it is to get rid of my flat style inlet and replace with a recessed door style of a 78......it was poor design i guess..........
What I can not understand is why my filler hose fills up & won't drain into the tank when my tank is empty. I would be happy if the tank would fill with the nozzle set on 1/2. Sometimes my tank is empty & I really need gas & I can only get 1 or 2 gallons in. That sucks! There must be a solution, but I need to know the problem first. Any suggestions?
What year pickup is this? Does it have the gas tank doors or not?
Sounds like an obstruction. Look over the filler neck again. Make sure the box is not pinching the hose. If all looks ok, you may need to remove the hose and look inside. I've seen these hoses come apart inside, and a flap of rubber plugs off the filler tube.
could be anything stuck in there...ive seen people pull all kinds of things out of the filler necks, sticks, rocks, grass, its amazing what kids find entertaining....ive even seen tampons from a mad ex-girlfriend.
Make triple sure your vent line is ok, otherwise, you will just have to join the slow fill club.
On mine, you have to feather it oh so slowly, and the 38 gal tank can take over twenty minutes to fill. PITA, but not much else can be done without swapping beds
