2018 f150 3.5 with 40000 miles. Service engine soon light came on but truck runs fine. Dealer can't get it in for a week, safe to wait or should I try somewhere else?
You local auto parts store will have a reader to check the code causing the check engine light. "Easy fix" will depend on what the respective code says the problem is.
Had my wife stop by the small independent repair shop we use does non warranty work and they scanned it. It come back as a vacuum issue with the fuel tank, they checked the purge valve in the engine bay and it seemed to be working fine so they said it could be the tank vent. They suggested driving it a few days and see if the light comes back on and if it does then bring it back and they dig into it more.
I don't know when they went to the capless gas tanks, or with what engines you get that, but if you have a gas cap you didn't tighten it all the way. If you have the capless system then there is an issue with the venting through that - which I don't know enough about yet.
Capless was on the 2015 but I don't know if sooner.
I would schedule something with Ford since that will still be under warranty. But if your shop isn't going to charge you (unlikely of course) I'd let them take care of it.
We're just going to drive it for awhile and see if the light comes back on. The code it threw was P1450-00 which is unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum.
