Unhappy Service engine soon

What's the first thing you check for if your service engine soon light comes on. My truck is now out of warranty and the service engine light just came on. I figure it is one of the O2 sensors but before I replace anything or pay the 120 bucks for the diagnosis I figured I would ask some of yall.

Service engine soon

The very first thing to do is take it to AutoZone and they will scan the code for you for free! Then, based on the code info, decide on what course of action to take to remedy the situation.

Best regards,

Jeff

Autozone let me use their scanner to find a code too, when I needed to find out why I had the check engine soon light. Turned out to be the EGR but it must have reseated itself in my case because once I reset it, it never came back.
