So many of you pull then at 75% or less capacity. My thread on the 75% rule. Were you thinking about this when you made your purchase?
Thought 1: Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.
Thought 2: Damn, this is a nice truck.
Thought 3: I need a new truck. Sell old one to one of the kids.
Thought 4: Nice depreciating asset. Don't need another forklift, trailer, or piece of machinery.
Thought 5: No stress towing.
All of the above, maybe not in that order. Main thing is CYA. I have a tall enclosed trailer that's like dragging a parachute. I also tow the goosenecks loaded with materials. A diesel is my only option. No drama towing. Not that I want a gas motor in my SD anyway. To each his own on that, it's been beat to death a thousand times.
I also have all of my trailers equipped with 14 ply tires, upgraded axles (torsion on the 24' goosenecks & enclosed trailer - Hutch suspension on the 40'er), electric/hydraulic discs, & hydraulic jacks. Trying to avoid trailer drama too.
I regularly tow a 46’ fifth wheel tow hauler that weighs in at 20,500 CAT. Tows great. A srw was not an option due to the payload inadequacies.
Never heard of the “75%” rule. Does it affect longevity? Possibly. But I am not going to purposefully not tow up to the max for this reason.
Btw, in aviation, we use a de tuned takeoff power setting for this exact reason. Most mfg and airlines call it a Flex takeoff.

my camper is about 75% of my tow capacity since i have a gasser. i wanted a bigger stable truck so i would have no issues towing and i dont. But i also needed/wanted the payload capacity of a HD truck because of hauling fresh cut firewood in the fall. Plus i like the super duty over the f150.
