Fuel gauge question

Ok. I thought I could remove the sending unit without pulling the tank. I have an in cab tank and sits on the top.
Also I'm an idiot I should've lead with I have replaced the carb with a Holley Sniper 2300 EFI system. I know everything was done properly as far as install. The shop that installed it said that the sending unit is new and he had to build a fuel pump because those units require one. I was trying to see if this was something I could do myself before I take it back to the shop. I do know that the gauge wasn't working before I switched over to fuel injection.
