I'm dead set against paying another 10k for a glass jawed diesel these days...that's why I floated the idea of a mild SC to get 30+% back for towing at altitude.
Buy yeah, 4.30s with the 10 speed would also be required for me. The 7.3 gasser might do the trick, but it's not 30% more power than the 6.2

All my towing is in Texas but I pull anywhere from 3,000 to 16,000 regular. Now when I have her loaded down the hills kick its but not really just have to let her scream in 4th but 4th normally holds 55 till I get to the top. My truck is tuned so my torque converter stays locked up in tow haul mode 2-6 gear 100% of the time. Ford has them where they only lock up 60% of the time and only 4-6. That makes a huge difference tranny runs way cooler than when it was factory tuned.

Yeah, I towed a TT in hill country as we went down to Padre Island. My turbo was boosting close to 30 psi at times. I can see why a NA motor would lie down...
55 ain't so bad but the truck likes 60-65 in 3rd (direct 1 to 1)
How do you think the 10 speed would do in your situations, Lamoon?

Just a few of my thoughts, first the 6.2 is a very strong and dependable motor but it's not designed for a turbo and if I was running one hard pulling heavy like I do I have a feeling it would hurt the longevity of the motor for the few times the extra power was needed. I'm pulling a 16K 5th wheel with my 2013 DRW 2x4 with 4.30 gears and being it's a DRW it has 17 wheels so the final gearing is as low as factory offers. The truck has 68K miles and 47K miles are pulling all the way from Wolf Creek pass in CO to sea level and yes at times it works its butt off but most of the time it's in 5th or 6th gear. I would really like to drive one setup like mine with a 10 speed, our 2020 F150 has one and it makes my 2.7 twin turbo V6 feel like a big V8. If I was looking for a new truck it would be a DRW 7.3 with 4.30 gears mostly because of the way I would be using it. If you haven't pulled heavey with a newer gas motor with all the computer controls to maximize the power output under load and elevation you would be surprised at what they are capable of compared to even 20 years ago.

Not really sure I haven’t driven one to see what the difference is. I have 2 2019’s both duallys both 6 speed one is a 6.7 to me that thing is fine I dont think the 10 was needed in the diesel. Would be curious to actually drive a 6.2 setup like mine with the 10 speed.

Not sure if I'm done here but it kinda looks like I have explored the 6.2 option and it probably is not for me and my conditions...

Cabaum, I realize this thread is a bit old and was browsing around with nothing to do and if I can shed some light on this. I bought a used 2016 F-450 from a California dealer in 2021. Being that Ford moved their F-450's GVWR down in 2010 from 14500 to 14000 it would be classed as a "class 3" instead of a "class 4" vehicle. Class 4 vehicles are considered "commercial" in California. Now the shock... Though my 2016 F-450 is a "class 3" pickup and is NOT a commercial truck on paper. I still got raped by Cal. DMV and I have a registration as a commercial vehicle. And my Farmers Auto Ins. would not register it, Even though both my wife and I have clean driving records (2 cars insured and 3 residential homes with Farmers). I looked at two other insurance providers and they would not insure me as well. The last Ins. provider told me they look at the truck as I might use it as a commercial truck to do business in, and the fact that it can haul so much weight, they did not want the liability. I finally went with Geico Ins. for my truck, they insured me (still as a commercial truck). Long story short... Expect to pay more for registration and insurance. Welcome to leftist California!
